Most of the tools that a new CEO needs to survive are not things that are not written in books or taught in any classes. A vast majority of entrepreneurs start a business doing something they love…which usually doesn’t include creating and running a successful business. With over 15 years of working in public accounting, I have gained a complex understanding of how small businesses work. My career began in 2006 at a CPA firm in Pensacola, Florida. During my 7 years with those great people, I was a “generalist”. I tried to gain experience in as many areas as I could in order to determine what I enjoyed most. I was involved in audits, reviews, compilations, payroll, sales tax, IRS notices, litigation support, and tax returns (corporate, individual, estate, trust, NPO, gift, etc.). Around 2010, we began hearing rumors of “cloud accounting”. Two associates (and great friends), Paul Barrett and Jakob Dwyer, and I jumped on the bandwagon immediately. We ate, slept, and drank (bulletproof coffee) everything cloud accounting. It was our mission to figure out the best, most efficient way to run a business. We were certified in more softwares and applications than we could even keep up with. Our list of add-on’s that we learned and tested was easily over 100. After 10+ years of searching, there is still not one application or piece of software that does everything you want it to - even if you pay $100k for a custom build. Our solution is simple. We rely on technology to do the heavy lifting, allowing us to spend our time reviewing and advising versus data entry. We manage the various integrations between your accounting system and point-of-sale, payroll, A/R, A/P, or any other major business function and verify all of the data is flowing accurately and most important, securely. After our review, we have time to analyze the financial statements and discuss, in detail, with our client.
